Founded in 2005, Maro is a representative traditional arts group in Jeju, which started as a performance group for the traditional Korean game of “salmolnori”. It has been pursuing a festive performance that breaks down boundaries by combining traditional music and dance with various genres of multi-art, ranging from traditional music and dance to media art.

In particular, Maro has consistently presented Jeju mythology creative plays that combine local culture, traditional music and dance, and media art, under the theme of “Jeju’s tradition, the magic of technology”. Works such as “Ieodo”, “Miyeojibangdwae”, “Tamna Power Odyssey”, “The Song of the Islands”, and “Different Star Different World” are representative repertoire pieces loved on world stages beyond the region.

Furthermore, Maro has been at the forefront of social solidarity and sharing under the value that “an artist’s life lies not in realizing their own artistic world, but in enriching society through art.” Following its selection as a social enterprise in preparation, it aims to become a certified social enterprise in 2023 and continue to make efforts to support performances for vulnerable groups and young artists.

In the future, Maro will continue to challenge the task of communication and harmony in the era of Web 3.0 through metaverse performances and strive towards the art that connects tradition and the future, and connects people to people.
