The Love Story of Goblin Heo
Original Traditional Musical Performance
A story of dochaebi(Jeju goblins) has come down to us through Jeju myths and folktales. The piece embraces diverse genres, including Jeju Kut-play (shamanic play), percussion performances, dances, pansori (Korean traditional singing) and Changgeuk (Korean traditional opera). It depicts the story of an ugly Dochaebi Heo who falls in love with a beautiful Haenyeo Oknyeon. Along with the unique and interesting theme of ‘The Love of the Dogaebi and the Haenyeo’, the piece seeks to bring about satire on the current society that is only judged by appearances and the culture that is discriminated against for being different.
