Maro is a non-profit organization specializing in traditional performing arts in Jeju. As an island with a unique terrain and the breath of the 18,000 gods still alive in its myths, Jeju’s traditional culture is reinterpreted through a fusion of Jeju Island’s traditional dance and music with media art. Maro aims to pursue the art of communication and harmony by delivering heartwarming performances that embrace the pains of life.
As a social enterprise, Maro also strives to create a society enriched by the arts, by providing performances for vulnerable groups and supporting young artists in Jeju.
The world of Jeju mythology unfolds through performances. It is a multidisciplinary art that combines tradition and media art and is renewing the value of Jeju Kut, which has a history of 5,000 years.
A tangerine-coloured feast on Jeju with traditional performances and percussion performances to convey profound event values. This creates a happy occasion for all ages to enjoy together.
A regular education program is offered for those who are interested in learning traditional Korean rhythms such as Janggu, Nanta and Sogo. We also offer a one-day class on Jeju Island’s traditional paper art, ‘Gime’.
For the healing and solidarity of Jeju Island, which is suffering from diseases such as Jeju 4.3, we will create a world where we can live together through warm performances with the vulnerable in our society.
